Hermès this year invited us to design their autumn season’s shopping window display for 11 boutiques of their Travel Network located in North America and France.
Welcome to “Astonishing Lines: Drawings Come to Life” a celebration of creativity and art inspired by Hermes theme of the year “Astonishment” and the profound words of Pierre Alexis Dumas: “astonishment is the starting point of creation.”
This concept is a testament to the power of imagination and seeks to captivate audiences by bringing paintings to life, using the line as the foundation of artistic expression.
In these windows series, we invite you to step into an artist’s studio, where incomplete paintings break free from the confines of the canvas and embark on a journey into new worlds and scenarios.
This three-dimensional art scenography invites passersby to participate in the magic.
In each scene, two or more archetypal artworks, representing historical painting subjects, engage in dialogue. The protagonists of the paintings are eager to escape the frame, contaminate reality, and “paint” a way out through creativity.
Witness a horse galloping away from its paddock to explore the rolling hills of Tuscany. Two lovers exit their portrait to embark on a seaside vacation. Even the still life table painting comes to life, as cats playfully escape to their home, while the flowers they left behind bloom into a stunning field of blossoms.
Integral to these living paintings are Hermes products, cleverly interacting with the drawing lines and brushstrokes on the canvas.
The wallet becomes a fruit on a palm tree, a carrè represents spilled water from a fallen vase, and a pouch transforms into a boat sail on the horizon.
