Working with Singapore’s last remaining Lion Dance mask craftsman, Leone are a series of lighting objects that bring the artistry of this rare South-East Asian trade into the domestic space.
Hand-made from lithe strips of bamboo, covered by rice paper and then hand-painted with patterns inspired by traditional livery, these objects put the Lion dance mask craft literally in a new light. To re-enter the public consciousness with a new context and expression.
These five contemporary archetypical lighting forms fit into any modern dwelling, while offering a surprise from the fluorescent internal surface, a reference to the vibrantly-coloured lion masks.
