“Verde Sospeso” is a collection of architectural column vases designed to celebrate greenery. Like altars, these objects aim to represent the fusion of nature, design, and art, offering a unique and evocative domestic experience.
The three column vases were created both analogically and digitally. Utilizing 3D printing support, these sculptures were crafted with precision and skill before being adorned using the traditional mosaic technique.
This combination of ancient and modern techniques creates a synergy between the past and the present, between technology and craftsmanship.
The underlying idea of the project is inspired by the concept of biophilia, which represents the innate connection and emotional bond that humans have with the plant world. “Verde Sospeso” serves as a sanctuary for the soul where one can relax and find solace in a serene atmosphere.
The columns of “Verde Sospeso” rise majestically to varying heights, resembling imposing tree trunks, creating a forest-like atmosphere. Their presence evokes a sense of stability and strength, establishing a captivating and magical ambiance.
The columns go beyond being mere decorative elements or containers; thanks to the plants they house, they become living works of art, a means of enhancing the beauty of nature by creating a domestic green space.
The surfaces of the columns, inspired by classical twisting columns, are adorned with a vibrant mosaic of unique craftsmanship. Each elongated tile was carefully selected in terms of color to create a graphic composition that harmonizes with the shapes and colors of nature itself.
“Verde Sospeso” invites interaction and exploration, offering the opportunity to incorporate more nature into our daily lives while simultaneously celebrating the refinement of artisanal mosaic in this unusual application. It creates an unprecedented blend of nature, design, and art.
The project has been realized in collaboration with mosaic atelier Koko Mosaico with the support of WASP 3D printing technology.

EPISODES OF CONTEMPORARY MOSACIS
Episodes of Contemporary Mosaics – a project that sees design and mosaic interacting and communicating with one another to produce new and unique objects used for interior spaces – will take place during the VIII Biennale of Contemporary Mosaics, held in Ravenna from 14 October 2023 until 14 January 2024.
The project – curated by Maria Cristina Didero, the first Italian curatorial director of one of the most important design fairs world wide, Design Miami – is conceived for the noble spaces of the Palazzo Rasponi dalle Teste and is supported and organized by the Municipality of Ravenna – Department of Culture and Mosaics, and by MAR – Art Museum of the city of Ravenna.
Aiming at enhancing traditional and contemporary mosaic production and crafting skills and capabilities of the territory of Ravenna, the project commissioned six designers and artists, selected by the curator to create objects to be realized in mosaic.
Industrial design, digital technologies of 3D printing and molding of the supporting surface, skills, and sensibilities typical of mosaic craftsmanship, and stone and glass tesserae converge with ingenuity to offer outcomes of great charm and originality.
The projects designed by Arthur Arbesser, Atelier Biagetti, Cara | Davide, Lanzavecchia + Wai, and Gio Tirotto are realized in mosaic by the workshops of Anna Fietta, Gruppo Mosaicisti of Marco Santi, Pixel Mosaici, Koko Mosaico, and Barbara Liverani, with the participation of WASP in the production of supporting surfaces printed in 3D in PLA (bioplastic obtained from corn starch).
